You can report any emergency in the US by calling 911. Whether you need an ambulance, fire department or police, a call to 911 will send you the required assistance.

In the USA, medical care is very good, just as in Austria. Since there are no agreements between Austrian insurance carriers and the USA, required medical services must be paid on the spot. These can be submitted to your own health insurance for reimbursement after returning to Austria. However, since medical services in the US are more expensive than in Austria, not all costs incurred will be refunded. Therefore, I can recommend two options to avoid any "nasty" surprise. Most credit cards (American Express, Visa, Master Card, etc.) cover health insurance, rescue costs, etc. while traveling, but please inquire beforehand to what extent and whether the entire family also has insurance coverage. The second option is to take out foreign health insurance, which would cover the costs if needed.

Not only with the US, but also with many other holiday destinations, there is no insurance agreement where, if needed, medical services must initially be paid for yourself. Therefore, it is always advisable to make inquiries before commencing your journey whether insurance coverage through your statutory health insurance is given during a stay abroad, and whether all costs incurred will be covered.

In Florida, there are general practitioners (GPs), referred to as General Practitioner or Family Practitioner, comparable to those in Austria. Here too, the fee must be paid locally, and can then be submitted to your health insurance carrier after your return. If coverage is provided by a credit card company or foreign health insurance, usually the full amount will be reimbursed.
